TICK TOCK

OOOPS !

Wow...I just had a heck of a time trying to get back on this thing. You see, I lost my password. That wouldn't be too bad but I also forgot the user name I used to create this blog so I had to do some digging and racking of my brain to get this information. But I did it. This time I will make sure I write this down somewhere. Now if only I don't lose the paper I write this stuff down on ! I guess only time will tell.

Blog Update

Greetings. I think I have finally got my blog set up almost the way I want it. Notice the cool clock at the top which not only tells you time, but has a calendar option so you can see the month also. Then, over to the right I have added a few things. A lovely picture of my beautiful wife, Laura. I also have a couple of newly added music options. One is set to start playing as soon as you get to my blog with some great Christian music. I also have one further down that has some old classic rock music. I have a third one with oldies but I am still seeing if I can put them all in the same place before I add the last one. I hope you will enjoy some of the additions to the blog and maybe next time there will be one or two more (new) gadgets to look at.

Where Have I Been ?

July 09. Hi there. A lot has happened since I last took the time to write anything, so I guess my first post will be about what's been going on. The last time I posted anything I was a retired police officer just taking it easy at home and not really thinking much about working a real job again. Well, all that changed and I decided to look into a few things to have a little extra income for the family. What happened since has been quite an adventure I must say and another lesson as to why God is in control and not me. I had applied at a variety of places, a couple of which I thought would be great for me. I had a friend tell me about a job at a place that did some advertising and I thought "Great", I love that kind of stuff. The door was opened and it looked good, but then all of a sudden the position fell through and that door closed. I applied at a University here in town as a peace officer and that one looked pretty good, but then at the last minute that door closed on me as well. Then I applied at a job with the city which I thought was the best opportunity yet. This was a position where I would be working with some friends that I knew from my police career, the pay was decent and the benefits were good. I was in the middle of that one when the University I applied at had another position come open and I was called to see if I wanted that one. Well, I turned it down because I was sure I would get the job with the city. I had been approved all the way through the process until......my application was turned down by a person in the last phase of the hiring process who had an old issue with me. I tried to find out if there was any way I could get that job but that door was shut on me as well. In essence I lost two job opportunities at the same time because I had turned down the other one as well. Okay, so in the midst of all that a friend had called me and said that there was an opening at another smaller University in town and that I should at least try and apply there. I had dropped off an application there just in case, and while I was sitting at home one day, upset that those other doors had been closed on me, my phone rang and it was the University that I had dropped off an application with. They asked if I was still interested, and I said yes. Within about a week and a half I was working at Our Lady of the Lake University as a Police Officer. That was September of 2008. About six months later (March) the Chief of Police of the University decided to move on and start working at another place. I was called into the Vice Presidents office, along with the Chief, and asked if I would like to hold that position until a new Chief could be appointed. Of course I said yes and I am still in that position today. I don't know how long this will last, but I know the Lord has brought me here for a reason. Through all the adversity and doors shutting on me, it was hard for me to understand, but that's how we are sometimes. Always wanting to know everything, be in control of everything. Well, we sometimes have to remember to just sit back and trust in the Lord, be obedient and get out of the way. I love what I am doing now and it's been a blast. I can now look back on my life years from now at two great careers. One as a City police officer where I served for over twenty six years and one as a University police officer where I (at least for a period of time) was the Chief of Police. The other great thing about this job is that as an employee of the University, my wife, my kids and I get to attend this University tuition free ! Another great blessing I would have never foreseen ! Yes, I am blessed! I promise to try and not wait another year before I post another blog. It is fun doing this, I just need to take the time to do it.

A FAMILY FRIENDLY MOVIE !

I just came back from watching "Journey To The Center of The Earth" with my wife and 13 yr old daughter and had a GREAT time. I highly recommend this movie if you are looking for a family type movie. Not only was this movie family friendly but it was in 3-D as well. There were all kinds of really cool scenes in it that had you jump in your seats a bit. Without giving the movie away, it is loosely based on the original movie which starred James Mason and Pat Boone. (Yes, I'm old enough to remember watching the original). But this one has so much more cool action shots and the storyline moves along a bit faster than the original. If there are any moms or dads out there who read this, please believe me, this was a neat movie to take the kids to. You don't have to worry about any profanity or nudity or gory violence. Just remember those 3-D glasses are kinda big for little faces to use so you may want to keep that in mind. So the next time you head out to the movies, keep this movie in your list of possibilities. You wont be disappointed.
